Thoughts from one of the troublemakers

I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their efforts thus far, and for everyone who has kept a positive attitude about things. It has made our year thus far I would say the most successful to date.I would also like to say that we're nowhere near done yet. We are about to undertake some extremely transformative things that will change the face of our group. There are those in the community that would say we have taken money and power above all else. I would like to invite those people publicly to help in this transition. Rather than use words and rhetoric to prove your points, use your actions to help us do the good that needs to be done.Volunteer, donate, and work publicly in and out of SL. The LGBT Community outside of SL is always in need of volunteers. There's been some comments made to me lately about politics and drama.I have one thing to say about this. To those of you out there taht would rather concern yourself with politics and dramatics, you're playing with yourselves. It's not on, we're not going to play. We have too much work to do, please move on because we have."- Rimpoche Kiama, Presiding Chair

The preceding statement (emphasis added by me) was made by Rimpoche Kiama, presiding chair, during a public meeting held on October 25, 2009. I believe Mr. Kiama's statement is little more than an attempt to squash disagreement and stifle the free exchange of ideas. One thing this chair seems to dislike is when "troublemakers" disagree with him. If you're on the Committee, an ambassador, or a "gold-star" contributor, you may feel you can express your ideas. It doesn't seem to work the same way when the "trouble" comes from the general membership.

In a way it's like, if you don't "toe the line" with the Committee, then don't let the door smack your butt on the way out.....if you're not with us, you're against us.....if you disagree with us, you're not a team player.

If an organization is going to make any significant change, disagreement and conflict are necessary components, and it MUST come from more than the 3-4% of people who currently lend their voices to the discussion. Furthermore, politics are necessary and drama is something you just have to live with. I had a little chuckle when Rimpoche asserted that politics and drama are unwelcome in his organization. That was a little like the pot calling the kettle silver (to be politically correct).

It's true, I have been frank and honest about my beliefs and concerns, and I have been less than tactful in some instances. In that regard, I have failed more than succeeded. However, I will continue to express my beliefs and concerns because I do care about this organization's future. That's why I've spent countless hours working in support of certain events and discussing certain issues on the forum. That's why I've donated money. If I didn't care, I would leave and never turn back. In that regard, Rimpoche, while appreciated, I do not require your recent advice telling me to continue to budget my time on what I feel is important.

It's funny how two people can read the same thing and get a different over-all impression. My sense is that Rim is issuing no more than a call for public service and volunteerism. Our organization knows how to talk --talking and discussing stuff is one of our greater talents. I think Rim is suggesting that it is also time to move beyond words; we need more help with the tasks at hand.

I think the 2010 committee had done a pretty good job outlining its objectives for 2010, and these forums provide opportunities to support, question, and refine our short-term and long-term goals. Reviewing past activity, I believe that the notion of an Ad Hoc committee/changes to the Charter arose from membership as well as from ambassadors and the sitting committee. It took three to tango on this.

I've sat on plenty of committees where the "devil is in the details", and to the devilish delight of many, the details consume the original thoughts behind them, and as a consequence nothing gets done. Somewhere there needs to be the balance between words and deeds. I have alway been a huge fan of substance, accomplishment, and Lady Gaga.

I was alerted yesterday to a group called Ambassahole, and here are my findings. Ambassahole - Founded by Eric Quimby - Charter: Dedicated to eliminate Prima Donnas everywhere - Eric is owner - visible members: Cap, Eagle, Eric, Rimpoche and Kris. Each has the title "SP Pride Ambassaholeunknown," which makes it a concern of Second Pride then. Defamatory. It seemed to be difficult to separate reference to Second Pride from the group, so, regrettably, elevating the call.

Hey Lemon,

Maybe I can speak to this one, because it sounds a lot worse than it is. That group was formed as part of a Halloween prank. playing upon Eric's costume. What some people will do to win a contest. ;>) I think it was more a joke he was playing on himself.

Cheers,

Marcus

To be fair to Eric, my dear dear Sister and Partner in Merriment, SL only always one founder in any Group therefore he, as the older of us (much!), took the bull by the horns and started our lil band of happy malcontents. Not to cross our defender Marcus (thank you) Eric and I started this during the Dark Bloody Days of the 30 day War of Transition (Nuf said on that subject).
The purpose was to relieve ourselves in private and not ruminate in the public square our personal disgust at all the around pomposity going on and more importantly, like the jesters and mummers of old, to remind ourselves that we too were but flawed players in the game.
Also, though we do not have an official charter, the Group is open enrollment to everyone. Newbies, General Members, Ambassadors, Current and Past Officials all may join in the true spirit of the Group...that one time or another we are all silly and a bit of an Asshole.

I'm all for fun, frolic, goofing and spoofing; but if you were not in attendance and "in the know" there is a negative and defamatory air about it . . . and at a time when the drama and disruptive circumstances seemed to be at an end.

Cap's post came in before mine posted so I'll add thanks for the clarification and history of the group. And it is indeed a fun idea and I like the sentiment Cap expresses that that we are all "but flawed players in the game" and that "we are all silly and a bit of an Asshole."

In the interest of keeping the peace and heading off drama and debate, perhaps this sentiment can be expressed in the group's Charter?

Just my $L2.

Peace,
Keo

And in fairness, I'd also invite anyone to view my profile pick and then ask yourself....in the scheme of things, where does political correctness come in conflict with common sense, and what good does it serve to create conflict when comedy is obviously the medicine in prescription?

Yip yip yip....

Ohh my my I have not ruined anything in my entire life let alone Pride. To be accused of defaming Pride was a bit to much for me to keep my mouth shut, considering I have worked along the side of this certain person on Pride. I think the whole ambassador group was made to birddog the committee and sadly I dont like this group. I thought it funny to make fun of it....because I dont remember having a group birddogging us in 2007, 2008 or I dont think they had this group in 2009....so the out going committee thought it best to use this group as a way to voice and manipulate the committee now....You know we all have to be given a chance to prove ourselves in Pride the ones that work on it....each Pride will either fail or be a success depending on the group of pple you have working with you. My main concern is that the crap never ceases....and you just dont get it.....Pride is not own by one individual or a group of them...IT BELONGS TO ALL OF US. Now if you still think I am defaming Pride...say it to my face I dare you....
